IN CONVERSATION WITH LAMBORGHINI’S STEFANO DOMENICALI
Lamborghini is currently undergoing a huge change with its ambitious growth strategy. Not only does it have a new chief designer and a soon-to-be released SUV called Urus, it also has a new president and CEO. Stefano Domenicali, who stepped into the top post early 2016, hails from Modena, Italy and is an ex-ferrari, ex-audi man with a wealth of experience in the field of motorsports and marketing. The most obvious question on our minds would be linked to his being president of the FIA Single-seater Commission, which gives direction to events such as Formula One. Will Lamborghini join racing championship? Domenicali is quick to cut us off at the pass with an optimistic, “We will revisit this question after the Urus is well on its way in perhaps five years’ time.” In the interim, he maintains, “We will keep supporting our Super Trofeo Competition and GT3 Le Mans Cup races as they are important for building the brand.” He also leaves us with one important insight— Lamborghini needs to not just appeal to its current demographic group, but cast a wider net to include younger, potential customers to safeguard its future.
