1 FITNESS ENTHUSIAST

I divide my time mainly between New York and San Francisco. In New York, I do a lot of boxing—it’s a great stress reliever and the classes tend to have great music. I also really like the community and vibe there. There’s a Crossfit gym in San Francisco near where I live, so I also do that. I like how challengin­g it is and how it changes up a lot. I get bored easily, so I really like the variety and how there are a lot of different movements within every workout.

I recently read this blog called Wait But Why? by Tim Urban, who has done some truly amazing posts. He did a piece on artificial intelligen­ce, and it’s the best work on the topic out of all those that I’ve read so far.

3 FLY-FISHING ROD COLLECTOR

I go fly fishing a lot. I have a massive collection of rods, which my wife doesn’t quite love. I try to go once every month or two. That’s how I meditate. I’m out there in nature, so I have to know quite a bit about entomology (the study of insects) and about the river. I find fly fishing artful and rhythmic.

4 BASKETBALL FAN

I used to play basketball a lot, and I’m a big fan of the NBA team Golden State Warriors. Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are great players, and they also have a good coach and general manager. The team got pretty lucky in terms of building up such an amazing roster. What’s funny is that I started being a Warriors fan in the mid1980s because I grew up in the Bay Area where the team is based, but everyone thinks I’m a fair-weather fan who hopped onto the bandwagon. No, I’m an original fan!

5 WINE CONNOISSEU­R

The one thing I indulge in is grape wine. I love wine. A while back, I gained weight because I was injured and travelling all the time, so I couldn’t really work out. So, for my weight loss, I’d limit my wine intake to just a little bit on two days a week. But living in northern California, I have access to some fantastic chardonnay­s. I go to Sonoma County, which is nicknamed Wine Country, quite often—it’s beautiful.
