Crystal Jade Palace Restaurant
The perpetually busy Chinese restaurant in Orchard is a top choice for weekend gatherings. It is, after all, Crystal Jade—an established brand serving top-notch Cantonese fare. A true testament to the kitchen’s ability is the xiao long bao, which doesn’t disappoint. Served piping hot in a steam basket, the skin has the right thickness and consistency that easily gives way to the meat and flavourful broth. A heavier option is the fried rice, which isn’t oily, has a hint of smokiness and is generously studded with shreds of crabmeat, egg, sakura prawns and chives. It pairs well with the roasted pork rib, kurobuta pork and roast duck from the combination platter. The double-boiled yellow melon soup is served extra hot, which is comforting on an empty stomach. On a busy weekend, the staff are able to handle a full house, ensuring everyone is taken care of and dishes are served on time. There are limited options for wines by the glass, so stick to other beverages.
