Crystal Jade Palace
Crystal Jade Palace is one of the stalwarts among Singapore’s roster of finedining Chinese restaurants, and it’s easy to see why. The establishment brings together fine food, good drinks, a cosy ambience and excellent service in a winning mix, carving itself into the consciousness of culinary enthusiasts. The roasted honey barbecued Iberico pork is impossibly tender, its delicately bitter char complemented beautifully by a sticky honey glaze, while the double-boiled yellow melon soup with seafood, served in an old cucumber “bowl”, is a satisfying broth spiked with delicious morsels from the ocean. Also offering up a pleasant surprise is the fried crispy rice and orzo pasta with prawn and shrimp; the bits of crispy rice lend a pleasing texture and lightness to the rich dish. Wash it all down with a pot of Heavenly Red Robe tea—an exotic brew with a delightful aroma of orchids and notes of smoky incense.
TATLER TIP
Jasmine green tea is the de facto standard brew served at most Chinese restaurants. However, you might want to be a bit more adventurous and order another variety; the restaurant’s offerings run the gamut, from minerally and woody to nutty and buttery.
