Chef Taro Takayama’s interest in cooking began when he saw a photo of a chef skilfully preparing sashimi and decided then and there that he wanted to pursue this career. Most recently, he was the master chef at the residence of the Japanese ambassador to Singapore, and cooked for dignitarie­s such as Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. He joined Mandarin Orchard Singapore to elevate its Japanese offerings before being given the chance to helm his own kappo-style restaurant.
