Few restaurant­s in Singapore can claim a 50-year history— and judging by the full house on a weekday night, Gordon Grill hasn’t lost its shine among regular patrons. From a menu of classic steakhouse dishes, the Provençal snails in a mild curry and herb butter sauce is the only dish with a local twist; the two thick fingers of soft sandwich bread come in handy for mopping up the sauce. Chilled seaweed pasta with king crab, sakura ebi, caviar and white truffle vinaigrett­e make for a refreshing and fairly substantia­l first course. Steaks take centre stage, though, with the meat trolley wheeled to your table, where your preferred cut is carved. The Snake River Farm Wagyu sirloin is grilled to a perfect medium-rare, while the Dover sole is deboned before serving as requested. Wine pairings for both dishes are up to par. For the finale, the crêpes Suzette, flambéed tableside for dramatic effect, makes for a scrumptiou­s and entertaini­ng experience.
