Leading interior design firm Design Intervention debuts its custom-made Signature Series of furniture for homeowners who desire a truly unique abode

While Herman Miller sofas and Kartell chairs impress with their distinct forms, the true hallmark of luxury lies not in the weight of a brand, but the domain of exclusivity. In this age of globalisation, embarking on a quest to carve out a unique abode has proven to be a greater challenge than ever. To this end, award-winning interior design firm Design Intervention has found an elegant solution to a buck sea of homogeneity – a beautiful suite of furniture designed by the firm to lend a stamp of originality to any home. Given the firm’s commitment to helping homeowners personalise their living spaces, this segue into furniture design doesn’t come as a surprise. We’ve rounded up 10 key designs from the 28-piece Signature Series collection that’s worth more than a second look.

CLUNY PARK CONSOLE

Less is more when it comes to this striking creation. Beginning with a simple rectangular body clad with a steel mirror finish, the geometric form of this console is further extended by the use of three-dimensional patterns on its outward-facing planes. Sleek, stylish, and suave – what’s not to love?

DRAGON RUG

Forget Persian carpets. This vibrant wool and viscose rug adds a touch of Chinoiserie chic to the living room. Bold, bright colours imbue such classical oriental motifs as dragons and peonies a distinctly 21st century sheen.

INFINITY SIDE TABLE

This linear yet sinuous side table proves that the collective swirl of gold, silver, and shagreen is truly bigger than the sum of its parts. Its striking form adds an interesting accent to a minimalist bedroom.

GATSBY CHAIR

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby celebrated a world given to pleasure and excess. Likewise, these high-backed chairs echo the glamour and extravagance of the roaring ‘20s. Its slim frame allows it to sit flushed against the wall of a corridor or hallway.

CATHERINE LEATHER POUFS

These versatile leather pouffs are firm enough to be used as a table but soft enough to serve as a stool. When you’re entertaining larger groups of guests, they can be separated to function as stylish stools. Otherwise, their octagonal form allows you to merge them, honeycomb style, to form a generous coffee table.

CANTON SOFA

Tired of seeing every man cave anchored with a leather Chesterfield sofa? Design Intervention’s clever take on the Chesterfield sofa sees a tailored buttoning detail that adds a playful twist to the classic design. In contrast to the sofa’s white body, the legs are finished in glossy black accented with gold detailing – Chinoiserie touches reminiscent of oriental lacquer ware.

SENTOSA COFFEE TABLE

With varying levels, the form of this coffee table calls for more than just a cursory glance. The terraced nature of this generous table also doubles up as a display for décor items. Personalise it with your favourite knick-knacks or leave it bare for a sleek, pared down look.

DETENDEZ CHAIR

Detendez means ‘relax’ in French and this plush chair invites you to do just that. Designed with a deep recline, you need only to lie back, prop your feet on the matching stool, and unwind with a good book in hand. The slip cover-like effect of the tropical-inspired fabric gives the chair a relaxed, unstructured feel.

CURVATURE LAMP

Sinuous bands of steel entwine to form a fishtail column that rises to support a sleek steel shade. This timeless, classic piece is evocative of the Art Deco era, deftly planting one foot in the past while stepping forward into the future. While it would work perfectly in a minimalist space, its luminous quality allows it to give sense of lightness and space to any room.

LEGO TABLE

Inspired by the Lego building blocks we’ve played with as a child, this grown-up take on the nostalgic toy builds upon the geometric lines of Lego, cleverly softening it with graduating textural tones to exude a sense of warmth. The pillar supporting the table top takes centre stage here, rising in an almost haphazard fashion before finding its own equilibrium.
