A Winning Streak

DESIGN INTERVENTION’S RECENT WINS AT THE INTERNATIONAL PROPERTY AWARDS 2017 REFLECT THE FIRM’S DESIGN PROWESS IN THE RESIDENTIAL AND LEISURE SECTORS

-

What makes an interior design firm successful? For Design Intervention, its philosophy of celebrating the personalities of its clients has been part of its winning formula. After scooping major accolades at the International Property Awards for four consecutive years, the design studio hits a new high with multiple awards in the residential and leisure categories this year, for its residential projects, as well as a dining and leisure concept. Take a closer look at two of its award-winning design projects— a luxurious penthouse apartment at The Tomlinson and a unique dining and entertainment concept for Singapore Wine Vault.

STYLISH TABLEAU

Under the discerning eye of the design duo, a penthouse apartment at The Tomlinson has become a chic retreat that artfully combines bespoke furniture pieces, luxurious textures and a sophisticated palette. Named as an award winner for Interior Design (Singapore) for the apartment category, this abode breaks away from the monotony of hotel-style rooms to create a plush city escape for the client, a businessman and his glamorous wife. “The apartment enjoys stunning cityscape views and we are particularly proud of how we have linked the interior scheme to the exterior views,” say Hunt, the firm’s principal, who had worked on the project with project director and partner Andrea Savage. The master bedroom suite, for instance, is designed with a restrained and restful palette of grey, aubergine and brown to draw attention to the apartment’s lush surroundings. Subtle inclusions of gold and metallic trimmings enhance the glamorous vibe of this metropolitan home, while impactful use of colour, patterns and geometric details add visual interest and dynamism to this unique home.

UNEXPECTED PAIRINGS

Nestled in the western fringes of the city, Singapore Wine Vault is a wine tasting, restaurant and entertainment concept that stands out for its intriguing design. For this project, Design Intervention was tasked to create the resort-infused ambience found in an American mountain retreat nestled within a tropical setting. The intention was to a create a restful retreat, away from the bustle of the city centre. Cabinetry, loose furniture and most of the light fixtures are bespoke creations that were made to evoke a tranquil setting when pieced together. Neutral tones of chestnut, espresso and nutmeg add depth to its design, while natural wood and raw driftwood lamps imbue various spaces with an earthy feel. Metallic details and crisp lines add to the cohesively contemporary look of this stylish venue. “We are particularly proud of how we have combined the essence of an American mountain lodge but blended it with a subtle undercurrent of an Asian spa resort to make it relevant to the local environment,” says Hunt. “The result: a mash-up of two seemingly opposing design themes in a striking yet harmonious manner.” Little wonder then, that the project was named as the Best Leisure Interior (Singapore) at the award ceremony; it was also selected as one of the notable regional representatives for Best Leisure Design in Asia Pacific.
