A New Tomorrow

-

It wasn’t so long ago when breaking bread with family and friends was the norm, or when a visit to the museum involved an actual walk around its premises rather than a virtual tour. The Covid-19 pandemic took the world by surprise, creating worldwide curfews that led to over half of the world’s population being placed in some state of lockdown and confined to their homes.

In such unprecedented circumstances, our abodes have become even more of a sanctuary as we find joy in the simple things—whether it’s caring for our house plants or savouring a cup of coffee while appreciating the blue skies. As my favourite wizard Albus Dumbledore would say: “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”. Taking that both figuratively and literally, we have put together a selection of decor ideas and inspiring reads that we hope will help improve your #stayhome mood and wellbeing.

From lighting pieces with futuristic details (page 40 and on the right) to fabulous finds inspired by director Wes Anderson’s technicolour cineverse (page 42), these collections celebrate the ingenuity of their creators and the technical finesse of industrial manufacturers. As work and play happens in a single space, we’ve rounded up ideas to improve your movie-viewing experience (page 46) as well as tips to craft a conducive workspace at home (page 50 and on the left). We also shine a spotlight on residential towers that pave the way to a greener and more comfortable means of urban living (page 72). Then, discover the latest innovations in smart home technology and clever solutions to help create a cleaner and safer living environment for you and your loved ones (page 80).

As we adapt to these challenging times, it has become more important than ever to continue supporting our local design talents. Discover the work of industrial designer Hunn Wai of Lanzavecchia + Wai (page 36) and the new milestone of local retailer Grafunkt (page 56). Then, explore the beautiful homes designed by firms including E&A Interiors (page 106), MOW Interior (page 126), Sujonohun (page 154), and also many more in our Interior Designers Special (from page 164).

The future may be uncertain, but the best way forward is to band together and plan for a better tomorrow. We hope this issue will help lift your spirits as we anticipate brighter days to come.
