The world knows Gisele Bündchen as a supermodel, but it’s not the glamour she wakes up at dawn for NAILED IT Rethink your nudes this season. The runways are awash with pale pink, rich burgundy and textured beige to go with your spring-tastic outfits

crolling through her Instagram page, you’ll find a few hints pointing to Gisele Bündchen’s supermodel day job. Mostly, you’ll be treated to snapshot after snapshot of the biggest loves of her life; her family, her dogs and her adventures outdoors. It’s the sights and smells of nature and the fond memories they evoke that captivate her, they way she captivates her over 7.7 million followers. The face of Chanel No. 5 shares how scents evoke some of her favourite memories in life.

Growing up, did you spend a lot of time outside?

I’ve felt very connected to the earth since I was a little girl because I grew up in a small village. I was always barefoot, and my grandparents from my mum’s side were farmers.

What do you love most about being outside?

I love the smell of nature. The smell of earth after the rain is my favourite. The wet earth reminds me that everything is so alive, and with the sound of the rain, you’re like, “Oh, that sounds familiar.” It brings me a kind of peace.

What is it about smells that captivate you?

A smell is a very powerful thing. I remember that time in my life in the south of Brazil because there was a very distinct smell. Whenever I go back there, memories come back because that smell is still there. It has that power. I also remember my mum’s perfume. I remember her scent, so I hope that my kids will remember mine too. Maybe a mum’s scent is not something you can forget right?

When are you the happiest?

I’m the happiest when I’m anywhere in the middle of nature. It could be the ocean, it could be the mountains… it could be anywhere, as long as I’m in nature, I feel like I’m in my element.

How do you find peace?

For me meditation and yoga have been unbelievable tools. I take that moment for myself to wake up before my kids wake up, when everything is quiet and peaceful. I sit with myself and just be in that state where everything is calm and silent and I’m able to feel present in my body. The only place I found peace was within. The experience I had in my life, it doesn’t really come from the outside, it comes from the inside.
