Give Thanks
f you’ve been following @Sgtatler on Instagram , you’d have witnessed how we have been gifted some very thoughtful and delectable food items from our friends of late. In receiving these and other gifts that come streaming through our doors this festive season, I am often reminded of this verse from the Bible: “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.” (Luke 12:48, King James version). We are indeed humbled by the care and love bestowed upon us by our readers and friends. At Singapore Tatler, we are lucky to be working in an industry that receives more compliments than complaints and fortunate to have the direct and distinct connections with our audience than most. This is why, for every little bouquet and gift that comes our way, our responsibility to you, our reader, grows. At the heart of our work is people, so for our festive Christmas issue, we speak to some of society’s leading lights about how they’re giving back. Our cover couple Trina Liang-lin and Edmund Lin talk to us about how they’re using their knowledge to start their own foundation, and why it has been a fulfilling experience for them (p.170). If you’re looking for original gift ideas, turn to p.184 for inspiration. Much as it is a blessing to receive, surely it is a greater blessing to be able to give. The meaning of Christmas festivity is not just one of celebration, but also of the spirit of family, friends, love, care and contentment. Whether you’re off for an annual holiday or planning for your own gatherings over food and wine, keep us updated, and continue to stay in touch with what’s happening through Sgtatler.com. To take you into the mood for the year-end celebration, have yourself a closer and deeper look at what went on at the Singapore Tatler Ball in our 16-page special starting p.60. From the team, Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
