Ferrari launches its new ‘practical’ supercar, the Gtc4lusso, and Andre Lam heads to Brunico for an Italian alpine high

errari introduced the original FF five years ago as a practical supercar that could seat four passengers and be used in all kinds of weather. One thing it was not expecting was for the car to generate controvers­y because of its styling. Like all Ferraris, the FF was a great car to drive but that did little to sway popular opinion, thanks to its unorthodox appearance. The Ferrari FF was the marque’s first-ever all-wheel drive because it could no longer ignore the advantages when its engines crossed over the 650hp mark. The additional traction afforded by this drive system meant that this Ferrari could be used in countries that experience sandy or icy conditions. Mindful of the impact all-wheel drive has on handling, Ferrari had expended considerab­le effort making the all-wheel drive behave in a Ferrari-esque manner as far as possible. This year, Ferrari rolls out the Gtc4lusso as the FF’S replacemen­t. In renaming the new supercar, Ferrari chose to highlight “Lusso”, which simply means luxury in Italian and GTC stands for Grand Touring Coupe. The number “4” is significan­t for Ferrari as it represents four-wheel drive, four seats and now four-wheel steer. Much as they loath to admit, the very first thing that had to be addressed was
