Feeding the Future

Pegasus Food Futures offers a sustainable alternative to traditional farming methods, thus paving the way for a greener, cleaner planet earth

-

Securing the future of food—such is the primary goal and crystalline vision of Pegasus Food Futures. A leader in global food security solutions, the organisation does so through its operations and innovations in farming, livestock, feedstock and food production. It essentially revolutionises the approach to safeguarding food security. Pegasus Food Futures was formed by Pegasus Agriculture Group, the largest owners and operators of hydroponic farming facilities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Water shortage and a lack of arable land in the MENA region mean that it hugely benefits from hydroponic farming methods. Also known as soil-less culture, hydroponic farming means crops receive water and nutrients directly through the roots. With its innovative technology, Pegasus Agriculture aims to reduce the reliance on imported food in a region that brings in over 90 per cent of its food requirements. This technology is also available for investment purposes, so green warriors can achieve high returns with their own managed mini-farms and play their part in safeguarding our planet. Such advanced farming techniques, combined with clean and ethical practices, ensure the production of healthy and fresh fruits and vegetables. Hydroponic farming also has clear and immediate benefits to the planet—it uses up to 90 per cent less water and is pesticide free. Notably, Pegasus Agriculture was accepted to be part of only 8,000 companies globally to join the United Nations Global Compact, attesting to its stellar sustainability policies, labour conditions and company procedures. Expanding on the hydroponic activities of its parent company, Pegasus Food Futures’ vision is to create a global sustainable future. Its services integrate fresh solutions to the most pressing local and global food supply issues. Operating out of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates as a strategic global hub, Pegasus Food Futures will initially focus not only on the Middle East but also on establishing and growing operations in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. The company is already supporting a major publicprivate initiative to develop a global indoor agriculture production, research, training and service hub on the east coast of the US. The project, in partnership with Kennett Township in Pennsylvania, leverages the area’s existing indoor agriculture facilities and historic indoor mushroom industry. In addition, a proposed Pegasus Food Futures project titled Agriculture City will see a state-of-theart facility housing multiple technologies for energy, water and food production. This 200ha megastructure in Saudi Arabia will include greenhouses, solar stations and a research lab. The environmental and ethical benefits are certainly laudable and multipronged, as ensuring the security of food safeguards a future for us all.
