From feminine, figure-flattering silhouettes to sexy asymmetric shoulders, Tom Ford reimagines the Swinging Sixties for the 21st-century, style-conscious woman this autumn/winter. Karen Tee reports
or clothes that are as elegant as they are sexy, there is one name that always delivers: Tom Ford. The American fashion designer, who injected a shot of life in Gucci in the 1990s, has made sexy his calling card with sometimes controversial campaigns and collections that celebrate the feminine form. This autumn/winter, the designer cum film director dials up the glamour and sensuality once again with a sharp collection that reimagines the sleek sexiness of the Mad Men era for today’s sophisticate. Think sleek, fitted tailoring with lean pencil skirts that are nipped in at the waist and body-con dresses that ooze feminine allure. Design details, such as ruching on the skirts, allow for a comfortable yet flattering fit, while asymmetric shoulders and slanted necklines offer a tantalising glimpse of skin. Colourblocking in orange, pink and purple hues give the looks a mod, graphic impact. The pops of colour continue with Ford’s covetable handbag collection, with standouts such as the porcelain pink Dahlia clutch featuring a structured frame with a contrasting soft, ruched body, and the lilac mini T tote with a bold perforated TF logo. For a touch of glitz, you can’t go wrong with the stunning gold snakeskin Saskia featuring a new subtle T-shaped clasp. With a crossbody chain, the compact bag is versatile enough for both evening and daywear, for the more intrepid. The 1960s theme continues with the retro silver booties, made with a modern twist. Constructed with chic metal square toecaps, they are comfortable enough to stride through the day (and night) with confidence and style, as befitting the unabashedly sensual Tom Ford woman.
