Abode a la Mode
What makes a house a home? Some say it is the people; others believe it is the feeling of warmth and security that welcomes you even when there is no one at home— which appears to be designer Stefano Gaggero’s art direction behind Flexform Mood’s latest collection. Designed by Roberto Lazzeroni, the collection features a palette of greens, from delicate jade to the intense shade of Verde Alpi; ash woods and dark ebony-stained oaks with matte red accents; and burnished metal in amber tones. It doesn’t aim to shock or seek attention, but rather to stimulate a restful sense of cosiness and intimacy, and create a nesting refuge away from the hustle and bustle of life. Lazzeroni himself describes his design approach as “sentimental”, one that is driven by emotion, sensation and impression. This sentiment is echoed in the collection of sofas, armchairs, tables, chairs and beds which are never sharp or angular, but designed with rounded and bevelled lines—soft silhouettes that exude comfort. Anchoring this collection is the Mr Wilde sofa, the epitome of elegance and comfort with its linear shape and soft curves. The collection’s curvilinear aesthetic is further highlighted by the Marmaduke portfolio of tables, which offers a selection of round, rectangular and square table tops finished in Pinta Verde or Verde Alpi marble, and rest upon a graphic base of angular metal legs. Inhabiting an area between the intricacies of art deco and the bold and dramatic influence of retro, Flexform Mood tells a narrative of contemporary living with a nod towards the past. Perhaps in this era of information overload, home is where we can shut out the noise of the city and simply enjoy the silence of our own personal space, and Lazzeroni’s collection for Mood manages to help us create the ultimate refuge—in our very own home.
