Feed it Forward
The toll that local businesses have had to bear in the wake of the Covid-19 situation is unprecedented, with some of the worst-hit from the F&B sector. Thankfully, amid their struggles, we are also seeing community support like never before. One recently launched example is Tripadvisor’s #Loveyourlocalsg advocacy campaign, a first in a series of initiatives by the online travel company to support the hospitality industry. The campaign, which is expected to last through the year, aims to inform consumers of ways to support local businesses. Much of this begins at a specially created microsite (tripadvisor.com. sg/loveyourlocalsg), which features a broad selection of takeaway and delivery deals from restaurants and partners such as Chope and Shopee.
The campaign will also support the Eat for Good collaborative initiative by the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre’s Company of Good. Simply put, F&B businesses can offer pay-it-forward meals for the public to purchase for the vulnerable groups in the community. The first 1,000 Eat for Good meals have been purchased by Maybank Singapore with Food Bank Singapore managing their distribution through its Feed the City programme.
#Loveyourlocalsg is part of a wider global campaign and according to Tripadvisor, there are plans to launch it in other Asian markets in the next few months. Indeed, the notion that it pays to pay it forward rings particularly true in times like this.
