Greenland Australia unveils tallest ultra-luxury penthouse in Sydney for A$35 mil
Anew 67-storey skyscraper called Greenland Centre Sydney is the talk of town since its topping-out ceremony held last month. Developed by Chinese-backed property development group Greenland Australia, the landmark development rises 235m above street level and is the tallest residential tower in the city.
The topping-out coincided with news that Greenland Australia will begin marketing the ultra-luxury “King Penthouse” that crowns the top two floors of the development. The 7,255 sq ft penthouse comes with an eye-watering price tag of A$35 million ($34.16 million), which translates to about A$4,824 psf on the floor area. This marks the first time Greenland Australia is publicly listing the ultra-luxury penthouse for sale. It had been kept for private sale since the project was launched in 2014.
Located at 115 Bathurst Street in Sydney’s Central Business District, Greenland Centre Sydney is a A$700-million project by Greenland Australia, which plans to designate the 479-unit development as its flagship project in Australia.
Speaking at the topping-out ceremony on Sept 7, Sherwood Luo, Greenland Australia’s managing director, remarked that “Greenland has a proud global reputation for delivering ultra-high-rise projects, and Greenland Centre Sydney is no different. [This project] combines our extensive global experience and knowledge with the best in local expertise.”
The topping-out ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore; New South Wales managing director of project builder Probuild, Nick Gaudry; and coCEO of project architects BVN, James Grose.
‘King Penthouse’
The ‘King Penthouse’ is designed by Australian interior designer David Selden, who drew his inspiration from the Sydney Harbour when he was designing the interior of the ultra-luxury residence.
The penthouse features polished Italian stucco lustro walls that curve through the living areas and mirror the undulating shoreline along Sydney Harbour, says Selden. Given the apartment’s dizzyingly height, the penthouse will feature 270-degree views of the Sydney city skyline, Sydney Harbour, and the Blue Mountains in the distance.
“The harbour defines and represents the beauty and the most amazing aspect of Sydney, and we wanted to celebrate this amazing geographical feature, with its undulating coves and inlets, which weave from the Pacific Ocean right through to the city itself,” says Selden.
He adds that natural light and reflectivity also informed the interior design of the penthouse, especially given its location at the centre of Sydney, and unparalleled views of the harbour. “The design of the walls around the penthouse plays an important role in the extension of natural light. As the light rolls over the edges of the curved forms, it emphasises the generous height of the spaces,” he says.
These design elements also work to aesthetically link the lower floor and the upper floor of the residence, which is connected by a sculptural spiral staircase. In total, the 7,255 sq ft duplex apartment features 4,424 sq ft of indoor living space and 2,831 sq ft of outdoor space.
Another design feature is an expansive sky garden on the top floor that features natural stone floors and a luxury spa surrounded by lush landscaping. “This private space enables the very best of outdoor living — a trait that is synonymous with Sydney — using generous stone paving set within layered and textural landscaping,” says Selden.
The addition of substantial landscaping enhances the outdoor areas which begins with a wide entertainment terrace on the eastern side, into an intimate garden terrace on the western side of the penthouse, says Selden. He adds: “All of these garden spaces are designed to reflect the natural and dappled light by day, while inviting in the sparkling and glamorous city lights by night.”
The top floor will also feature an outdoor kitchen while the indoor kitchen will come with high-end appliances and a concealed scullery. The entrance to the residence opens to a sweeping grand foyer with a fireplace and skylight. The master bedroom features a separate timber- panelled dressing room with open display shelving.
Greenland Australia
Greenland Centre Sydney is the sixth project by Greenland Australia since the company entered the Australian real estate market in 2013. The developer is backed by Chinese property group Greenland Group, an international property developer that is known for its high- rise developments around the world.
According to the Australian Financial Review, Greenland Centre Sydney is more than 90% sold and most of the top- floor units have already been snapped up. The newspaper also reported that three- and four-bedroom units on the top floors have fetched between A$4,552 psf and A$4,645 psf over the past few years.
With the topping-out of Greenland Centre Sydney behind it, the developer says it will focus on the final construction phase, including facade installations and the completion of all internal fit-outs. Greenland Australia says that its flagship development is on track to be completed early next year.
