Singaporean professionals excited to embrace AI for work

Despite feelings of worry and uncertainty, Singaporean professionals are excited to use artificial intelligence (97%) at work and believe it will help them progress in their careers (93%). Many are already thinking of ways AI can help them be more productive. This includes using AI tools to solve problems or overcome obstacles at work (73%) and getting advice on handling difficult scenarios at work (69%). They are also ready to embrace the possibility of a blended workforce, where humans work alongside AI, in the future.

Additionally, the LinkedIn study reveals that professionals in Singapore believe AI will help spotlight the irreplaceable value of their human skills in career advancement. They note that problem-solving, adaptability, resilience and strategic thinking will become more important as AI tools are widely used at work.

With AI taking away some of the drudgery work, respondents believe AI can help them increase job satisfaction (53%) and achieve greater work-life balance (54%). They are also keen to invest their freed-up time in learning new skills (44%) and to focus on more creative and strategic work (40%).

“Nearly four in five professionals believe AI will be an invisible teammate to help them with their work in the next five years. While getting up to speed can be challenging, seeing that Singapore professionals are not shying away is encouraging. They are already putting in the work to leverage AI and future-proof their career – whether it’s through upskilling, experimenting with generative AI tools, or talking to their bosses on how AI will impact their jobs,” says Pooja Chhabria, LinkedIn’s career expert and head of editorial for Asia Pacific.

To be prepared for an AI-fuelled workplace, Chhabria advises individuals to reach out to their network to share learnings and stay up to speed on AI by following thought leaders and subject matter experts such as Dr Ayesha Khanna. They should also sharpen their soft skills, as those skills (like communication and leadership) are the top in-demand skills by employers in Singapore today. Besides that, they should continuously grow their AI skills and knowledge using readily available tools.
