BEST FOR A delicious country meal in elegant surrounds. FOOD There is an extensive menu available throughout the day. Order from a spot on the terrace that boasts stunning views of the vast estate. Start with the Highland Platter consisting of generously sliced cold cuts, trout pâté and cheeses served with tapenade pesto; the Waldorf salad with toasted walnuts, sliced Granny Smith apples, cubed gorgonzola and creamy dressing is generous too. For mains, slow-braised oxtail in red wine is a wonderfull­y comforting choice. It would be a sin to come all this way and not end with the rich and delectable Dutch apple cake. The dinner menu changes with every season and there’s a set menu, too. DRINKS There's a large selection of fine SA wines as well as some upscale choices, plus a variety of beers and ciders. SERVICE The service is friendly and well informed. AMBIENCE Relaxed, charming and elegant in a manor-house setting on extensive grounds. (AM)
