BACK’S RESTAURANT AND DELI

-

BEST FOR A long, lingering bistro meal. FOOD A short but considered breakfast menu leads the charge, with items like a variety of rösti Benedicts and blueberry and buttermilk flapjacks. Light lunches include open sandwiches, salads and cheese and cured meat platters. Throw in substantial mains like slow-roasted pork belly or trout fishcakes, and you’ve got something to satisfy every culinary whim. A special of braised lamb shank with sweet potato purée is meltingly soft, while their classic burger is perfectly cooked and served with aged cheddar cheese, a tangy tomato relish and pickled cucumber. End with cake or artisanal ice cream or sorbet – chardonnay fig, anyone? DRINKS Fairview and Spice Route bottles offer good variety. There’s a range of fresh juices and smoothies. SERVICE Staff are welcoming and laid-back. AMBIENCE Located in a beautiful old Cape Dutch building, the look is respectful of the site’s heritage and very stylish – gleaming wooden floors, intricate brickwork and beautiful ceilings. (JC)
