Rookie coach appointed to save TS Galaxy from further self-destruction

- Mark Kinnear

TS Galaxy remained winless in the 2020/21 DStv Premiership after a 1-0 loss to Sekhukhune United at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

They remain bottom of the log table. They have conceded more goals than any other team in the league; 11 in six matches.

The Rockets have a massive task ahead to salvage their season.

The man to lead the fightback is 42-yearold German-born Bosnia and Herzegovina national, Sead Ramović, who was announced coach designate last Friday, four days after Owen Da Gama was dismissed.

He inherits a team that has had a disastrous start to the season.

He was present at Saturday's match, but only as an observer. His South African work permit is being finalised and acting head coach, Shaun Bartlett, will remain in charge of the team until Ramović can legally ply his trade.

TS Galaxy put up a good fight against Sekhukhune, but their poor finishing again let them down. They created goal scoring opportunities, but could not get the ball in the back of the net.

The Sekhukhune goalkeeper, Toaster Nsabata, was in fine form for the visitors and won the man-of-the-match award.

A 79th minute goal by Sekhukhune midfielder, Pogiso Mahlangu, was the difference between the teams.

Ramović has signed a three-year deal with The Rockets.

Ramović boasts a wealth of experience, having played in German Bundesliga, the Norwegian Eliteserien and the Serbian SuperLiga during his glittering career, which spanned over 15 years.

He was a goalkeeper.

The club president, Tim Sukazi, explained the reason behind the appointment of Ramović.

"We are quite delighted to have secured the services of Sead Ramović as the head coach of TS Galaxy Football Club. I’ve known Sead since his playing days, which made his move a seamless transaction," Sukazi said.

"As a young club, we stand to benefit from his experience in top European leagues, which includes playing in the German Bundesliga for eight years. He holds a

UEFA Pro Diploma," he added.

It will be Ramović's first coaching appointment.

TS Galaxy's next DStv Premiership match is against ninth-placed AmaZulu at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday October 20 at 17:00.
