Sizzling golf at Lowvelder Challenge once again

Cor Viljoen won top prize at the second edition of the Lowvelder Golf Challenge. He receives his prize from Lowvelder editor Stefan de Villiers.

The second monthly Lowvelder Golf Challenge was held at Mbombela Golf Club last week, and the golfers who took part put their best on show with many great rounds carded throughout the day.

The Lowvelder Golf Challenge is a series of 10 golf challenges organised by the Lowvelder, and presents a unique and fun experience to local golfers. While it is about the competition at the end of the day, that is not all that makes each challenge worth your while, as great gees is prevalent every time.

Quips and jokey jabs at an opponent’s game can be heard around the course, in among the cussing and cursing about bad shots mumbled under one’s breath. Not to mention the whooping and cheering of great shots too, of course!

For the second edition of the year, Lowvelder welcomed on-board Du ToitSmuts & Partners Attorneys as well as Octopi Smart Solutions as sponsors for the day. Their expertise and commitment to service excellence shone through as they helped to make the day memorable.

The golf was played in the individual Stableford format, and Lowvelder editor Stefan de Villiers triumphed on the day with 43 points, but forfeited the prize to second place. Wiekus Roos of Du Toit-Smuts & Partners Attorneys was second with 38 points, and also forfeited his prize.

This meant Cor Viljoen took top prize on 38 points, followed by Attie van Wyk on 37 points and Piet Roux in third on 37 points.
