Rescued puppy needs a forever home

WHITE RIVER - An abandoned puppy, left to die in the bush, was rescued by a kind Samaritan and is now looking for a loving home.

According to Maryke Hastie, who rescued the puppy, she found it on the side of the road towards Phabeni Gate on February 28 with a cloth bound around its neck.

She took it to SPCA White River and from there, due to its poor condition, it was rushed to the White River Animal Hospital where it was lovingly treated and restored to a pretty and happy little pup.

“The day I found her, even though she had been brutally neglected, she still wagged her tail as I picked her up. And I knew then that she had a heart of gold. She is up for adoption now, and I hope she will find her forever home. I named her Hazel; she’s in good condition. The White River SPCA took her in, worked their magic, and today she is the most delightful little girl. She is under a year old, slight of build, with so much appreciation for life,” Hastie said.

Meanwhile, SPCA White River’s inspector, Michelle van Wyk, said the puppy was lucky to have been found, and that she believes the owner had left it in the bush to die. “But after it came to our centre, it was promptly treated and has fully recovered. After the vet at White River Animal Hospital treated it, it is a happy dog needing a loving home where it will not be abused,” she said.

Van Wyk also said people who own animals and don’t want them can contact the nearest SPCA to take them in, rather than abuse or abandon them in a bush to die.
