One of the cornerstones of Total’s business is environmental stewardship and Total’s long-standing partnership with South African National Parks (SANParks) reflects this. This partnership is aimed at conservation practice and awareness, environmental stewardship, education and, finally, acknowledging environmental heroes.

In celebration of the 60-year anniversary of this partnership in 2019, Total South Arica sponsored R4.5m worth of Total Jet Fuel (which will be distributed over a three-year period) for the SANParks helicopters, to assist with combatting rhino poaching. This donation helps keep the SANParks helicopters in the air for many more hours to help combat poaching.

JET A-1 is an aviation fuel formerly known as ‘kerosene’ which is suitable for most jet aircraft. It meets stringent international requirements, particularly those of the latest versions of the AFQRJOS, the British DEF STAN 91-91 standard, the ASTM D1655 standard and the NATO F-35 specification. JET A-1 is the principal fuel used for jet turbine engines and is also used in general aviation for compatible diesel engine planes.

In addition and as part of the Total solarisation project, which aims to have installed solar panels in 5 000 service stations around the world by the end of 2021, Total converted the Total Skukuza service station with solar panels, whilst the company is working towards having 282 Service Stations to be fully solarised by the end of 2021.

“In addition to the 60 years partnership anniversary between Total South Africa and SANParks, it remains a priority to be the aviation partner of choice.” Says Katlego Rangaka, Aviation Sales Manager at Total. “This donation also reinforces Total South Africa’s commitment to a sustainable environment through preservation of wildlife.”
