THE XT TRAIL PEDALS (KNOWN OFFICIALLY AS PD-M8020) ARE BULLETPROOF, with a ‘fit and forget’ rating second to none. Their generous platform provides support when you’re unclipped, and also protects the retention system from pedal strikes from rocks. Compared to the 171g XT version without the platform, the added weight of the 204g M8020 is negligible when considering the benefit it provides. Entry and exit are smooth and predictable, refined through decades of Shimano’s justly-lauded engineering and racing experience. The only drawback of the M8020s is their inability to shed thick mud efficiently – so if you frequently ride in very muddy conditions ( like those in Sabie, Mpumalanga), it’s perhaps better to opt for a pedal such as Crank Brothers’ Eggbeater. – coolheat.co.za
