and the group Ballyhoo will play throughout the day. There will also be an Elvis impersonator, a Miss Classic Car Show competition, and beer tents and food stalls to create a festival atmosphere.

Expect to see classic Cadillacs from the 1940s and 1950s rubbing door handles with Mustangs, Camaros, Dodge Chargers and other period muscle cars. There will be a sprinkling of MGs, Alfa Romeos and the many incarnations of everybody’s favourite classic, the VW Beetle.

An interesting sub-category of streetrodding that will be at the show is the classic American pick-up truck category. Chevy pick-ups from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s will be there in abundance, and while some owners choose to leave them in “as found” condition, others restore them to original specification, while still others see them as an ideal canvas on which to render their street-rodding art.

Show organiser Paulo Calisto will be displaying three of his own classic Chevy pick-ups in this category, while Rolling Thunder will be showcasing many types of classics, mainly from America.

“You can also expect to see many of SA’s favourite home-grown muscle cars at the show,” says Groenewald. “I’m talking about cars like the original Mk II Cortina Perana, the Capri Perana V8, the Chev Can Am, and the Holden Monaro, Chev SS and the Fairmont GT.

“A lot of these cars, which were icons here in SA in the 1960s and 1970s, are now extremely sought-after overseas. We also had classic sports cars like the Dart, and even the VW-based Puma.”

A club that will enjoy a special spot at the show is the Ford Cortina Club of SA, which celebrates its 50th year.
