DA fights for justice

-

SIR — As a young democratic nation, we have seen many political parties being formed, yet only the Democratic Alliance (DA) deserves to be applauded for its commitment to the fight for justice.

Two weeks ago, the High Court ruled in favour of the DA, compelling the National Prosecuting Authority to disclose the record of decision behind the dropping of charges of fraud and racketeering against top KwaZuluNatal African National Congress (ANC) figures, MECs Peggy Nkonyeni and Mike Mabuyakhulu.

Since this saga was first made public, the DA has been consistently fighting for transparency and no political interference in this case. The party has used every tool available to ensure this. The case must be given the sober attention it deserves.

The ANC has a chequered history when it comes to ensuring that corrupt officials face the full might of the law. In fact, if it cared about good governance, the ANC would be at the forefront of calling for these two politicians to resign or be suspended until found innocent in a court of law.

Instead, they continue to enjoy protection from the government and many comrades. This kind of action has made them believe they are untouchable. This silence from the ANC has the potential to damage the party’s brand. I applaud the DA’s decision to fight for the truth.
