Hillary will trump Donald

- Dawie Jacobs

Americans generally do not seem to be hugely excited about any of the presidential candidates. From a foreign perspective, however, Hillary Clinton would surely spell continuity and business as usual. In contrast, Donald Trump would bring uncertainty. The world is already nervous about his candidacy, as are many Americans.

The US has always been an open country where immigrants could live their dream. With the changing demographics, where AfricanAmericans, Hispanics and other immigrants have weakened the power base of specifically the Republican Party, Trump plays on fears.

The US presidential debates reflected the state of the nation. None of the candidates managed inspirational performances; the standing of the US has taken a knock. From an international perspective, Clinton is no doubt the preferred choice, but the Americans will vote with internal politics in mind and Trump plays to that audience.

However, creating doubt about whether he would respect the outcome of the election should he lose is reckless and has caused himself and the US huge damage. Unless something dramatic happens, I believe Clinton will be the next US president.
