Clover’s great generosity

-

I read the article describing the “tough” year Clover survived (Clover battles rising costs in ‘new reality’ September 14), and it seemed imperative to say something about its generosity to children in need.

We are a small preschool in a deeply rural part of the Western Cape and it is necessary to feed our children because, for many of them, it is the only food they get.

I approached Clover in 2016 to ask for a donation and we were one of the lucky schools to receive a hamper. This year, we got one again. When people have more than enough, it is very generous to give to others, but when they are struggling, it is exceptional.

I would like to thank Clover again for its contribution to our children’s health and development. Clover deserves good profits as a reward for looking out for others not yet in a position to look out for themselves.

Pikkewyntjies/Penguinkidz Preschool have the potential of snowballing individual contributions, resulting in a more synergised way of implementing the government’s programme of action.

The recent two-day visit by Deputy Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Candith Mashego-Dlamini, accompanied by senior managers of her department, to consult and engage Mpumalanga district and local municipal leaders, traditional leaders and stakeholders set a tone in calling for all structures of government to work together in fighting poverty and bringing about radical economic transformation.

The engagements are part of nationwide consultations undertaken by the department with district and local municipalities and other stakeholders on key interventions to improve service delivery linked to the implementation of rural development and poverty alleviation programmes.

Services are delivered at a local and district level so the national, provincial and local levels need to work in a more co-ordinated and synchronised way to expedite and accelerate service delivery.

Working together will double the impact of service delivery, which will go a long way in speedily empowering the previously disadvantaged.
