Two Learjets on auction at Lanseria

-

Park Village Auctions will sell two Learjet 55s — ZS-ELI and ZS-ELJ — by public auction at Lanseria airport on Wednesday October 25.

The sale will appeal to those involved in charter and air medical services, Roy Lazarus of Park Village Auctions says.

The ZS-ELI is configured 7/2 for passenger charter services, but the sale includes Spectrum stretcher beds, allowing for it to be reconfigured for medical air rescue. The passenger configuration provides five-star comfort on flights.

The ZS-ELI is a 1983 Learjet 55 powered by two Honeywell TFE 731 engines. With a range of 3,000km, it is renowned for its fuel efficiency, strength and speed. It has a long-range capability due to its cruise speed of (440knots/800km/h) and does the flight leg from Lanseria to Malta in 12 hours with two stops, or Mauritius, Kinshasa, Entebbe or Nairobi direct with five passengers.

The ZS-ELI is fully certified for charter operations and is fitted with the latest version of the mandated traffic collision avoidance system, digital flight data and cockpit voice recorder.

It has external and internal baggage areas for easy access to personal effects during flight. The internal baggage area can be loaded from the emergency exit.

The second aircraft, ZS-ELJ, will be sold as an airframe only and contains useful spare parts to keep operating costs down.

Included in the auction as separate lots are a Honeywell TFE731 engine, an assortment of serviceable and unserviceable avionics, radios and spares.

Lazarus predicts that the auction will attract many online bidders as these assets remain popular worldwide.

“The Learjet 55 was the first truly stand-up cabin produced by Learjet,” he says.

“With a separate toilet compartment with basin and running water, as well as a compact galley with water heater and oven, the 55 is well suited for the owner wishing to travel around Africa, especially in the Southern African Development Community region. The upcoming auction represents a fine opportunity to acquire an aircraft which has been a favourite among corporates and individuals since the 1960s at a very affordable price. All in all, a pocket rocket on a budget for a potential buyer.”

Bidders can participate online via Park Village Auction’s online bidding system or attend the auction in person at Hangar 202, Gate No 7, Lanseria Airport.

Viewing can be arranged by appointment with Jack on 0825566853. An upfront refundable registration deposit is required to secure participation before the auction.
