South Sudan leaders to resume talks
South Sudanese rebel leader Riek Machar has accepted an invitation from Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to talks with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir in Khartoum next week, a spokesman for Machar said on Wednesday. “The movement welcomes this invitation … it will go a long way in building confidence in the peace process,” the spokesman said in an e-mail. The meeting, set for June 20, will be the first time Kiir and Machar have met since a peace deal between the government and Machar’s rebel group fell apart in August 2016. Machar is currently under house arrest in SA.
