Time is ripe for new party

-

Witnessing the goings-on of the main political parties, it’s hard to believe they’re facing an election in 2019. Both the ANC and the DA are so intent on fighting intra-party fires that they’re neglecting crucial issues affecting the community at large.

The common voter will soon be asked to decide which party to send to the Union Buildings, but at the moment there’s no clear indication which is the better of the two. The president himself is facing a backlash from Jacob Zuma supporters, some of whom are still on the ANC national executive committee. Will he be able to survive after the election? If not, the ANC will continue to fall from grace and cannot be trusted to clean up the mess it’s in.

The DA too, with the Cape Town mayoral affair and other leadership squabbles, is clouding the issue. If it cannot sort out its own troubles, how can it govern a country that is in deep trouble?

Given this state of flux, it is an ideal time for the establishment of a brand new party made up of honest and competent people who will grasp the nettle and come up with workable and sustainable policies that engender hope for the future. The country has been ravished by selfish and crooked leaders.

There must be one important proviso: please, no past or present politicians in the line-up. They’ve had their chance and made a hash of it.
