Victorian rosewood dining table with marble top star of sale
A fine Victorian rosewood dining table with shaped marble top and centred mirrored door was knocked down for R12,000 at the Westgate Walding auction in Wynberg, Johannesburg.
Other pieces of furniture that attracted interest on Wednesday were a Victorian walnut chaise longue (R3,800); a set of six Victorian walnut dining chairs (R6,500); a George III mahogany tea table (R2,000); a set of four William IV rosewood dining chairs (R3,200); a Georgianstyle mahogany secretaire bookcase (R9,500); an early20th century French upholstered giltwood sofa (R6,500) and a George III mahogany tilttop wine table (R6,200). More expensive were an earlyVictorian rosewood dining table (R9,500) and a Victorian rosewood side cabinet (R12,000).
Among the paintings that attracted interest were James Vicary Thackwray’s signed oil on canvas Portrait of a Lady

Highest price fetched in the jewellery section was R35,000, paid for a fine 18ct gold and diamond dress ring.
