Five things to watch this weekend
SUCCESSION SEASON 3 SHOWMAX
The Roys are back for even more vicious, foul backstabbing and boardroom manoeuvring. This season the once prodigal son Kendall goes full black sheep while the rest of the clan bend over backwards to keep paterfamilias Logan happy as he prepares for the corporate battle of his life. Available from October 18.
GHOST HUNTING NETFLIX
As part of a welcome effort to deal with a vastly uneven representational playing field when it comes to content produced by and about Israel, Netflix has placed a variety of Palestinian-produced and Palestine-focused content on the platform. Raed Andoni’s 2017 documentary is a traumatic but innovative piece of theatre in which the director invites former inmates of Jerusalem’s infamous Moskovia Interrogation Centre to work together to create a replica of the prison and talk about their harrowing experiences there.
DIVINE INTERVENTION NETFLIX
International breakout of Palestine’s most acclaimed film director, Elia Suleiman, in 2002 is a darkly humorous, touching and often absurd mix of drama and love story. When a Palestinian couple meets up on either side of an Israeli checkpoint, they watch as an increasingly bizarre series of events unfolds before them.
A SINISTER SECT: COLONIA DIGNIDAD NETFLIX
This is a terrifying true life investigation of the cult run by a former Hitler Youth member in Chile in the 1960s. Survivors of the sect relate their gruesome experiences at the hands of leader Paul Schäfer whose torture, rape, murder and paedophilia were tacitly condoned by Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.
BAD SPORT NETFLIX
Netflix’s engrossing sports series examines some of the more controversial sports stories of recent times. They include those of pot dealer Randy Lanier’s bid for motorsport glory by whatever means necessary legal or illegal, Juventus director Luciano Moggi’s scandalous bribery of football referees in the Italian Serie A and the fall from grace of our own original sporting clayfooted hero Hansie Cronje.
