Call to stop crime at ‘White House’
THE HOUT Bay Civic Association has called on the City of Cape Town to put measures in place to deter criminal activity at a problem building called the “White House”, after a man was killed there this week.
The association’s Roscoe Jacobs said it hoped the city would put urgent measures in place to prevent further crime.
When approached for comment, mayco member for safety and security JP Smith said he did not recognise the association.
“I’ll speak to real people,” he said.
He said that regarding the “White House” the city had done what it could, conducting patrols as the community asked, but the police were responsible and have bigger resources.
“They should complain to the police and not point finger to the city,” Smith said.
Police spokesman Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana confirmed that a 27-year-old man was stabbed by three suspects, who later escaped the scene, on Wednesday.
“The man suffered multiple stab wounds and he eventually died. Police are investigating a murder case. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated and no arrests have been made.”
Kinana asked anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the three suspects to speak to the police.
Hout Bay Neighbourhood Watch’s Michelle Buys said it was no surprise that such crimes were committed in the area.
“Crime in Hout Bay is like everywhere else. Such incidents do occur, even though it is not a daily thing.
“At the moment I’m not sure what led to the man’s stabbing, but it’s not surprising it happened. We urge the community to assist the police in finding the three suspects that killed the man.”
