Footage reveals final moments before attack

THE CAPE Argus is in possession of video footage of the final moments before Sanet de Lange was viciously attacked.

She was brutally beaten in the early hours of Friday morning after celebrating her homecoming from Thailand with friends at a club in Claremont.

The footage shows Sanet outside Tiger Tiger looking for a lift.

Jack Brice, the private investigator tasked by her family to probe the case, believes it was then that she became the target of four men seen on security footage captured at the entrance to the club. In the footage, the young men notice her plight and attempt to talk to her. The teen told the Cape Argus yesterday that she didn’t remember what the conversation was about. Moments later, they are seen following her out of the establishment.

At one point she is seen trying to go back into the club, but one of the men grabbed her by the arm and later two of them are seen following her out.

Sanet was attacked after getting into a cab – an assault that left her with a serious concussion; the reason she is unable to recall much about the incident.

While the footage from the nightclub was not able to jog her memory, Brice believes an arrest will be made soon.

He said today is “D-day” as he will be getting additional CCTV footage that will give the case more clarity.

“She is not drunk; I have reports of her blood tests and she showed no signs of being drunk. But as soon as she walked they followed her,” he told the Cape Argus.

He added that he believes the suspects should be arrested in the next two days.

“Her blood alcohol level was 0.06 – that is so low and probably one beer.”

Sanet was transported to the Rondebosch police station in a police van. The officers who picked her up reportedly thought she was dead.

“The one that took her from the scene has been suspended,” Brice said.

Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said the family had laid a formal complaint with police and that they were investigating a case of “assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm”.

No arrests had been made, he added.
