I am sickened by the drivel that armchair politician Thomas Johnson spews. He must join or start a political party and effect change from within, instead of criticising all and sundry from the line. Join the ranks and become a meaningful player, Sir. – Mark Kleinschmidt, Kenwyn

I would like to take issue with the word transformation. While I agree with the general thrust of his writing, the word transformation will always imply that somebody gets something that is not on merit. If we (Saru) had started 20 years ago to invest in facilities and coaching in schools in underprivileged areas, the picture would look different today, and the resource pool of players would show a different demographic. Merit selection remains the only viable option, but let’s invest in the huge pool of talent out there and develop it. No coach in SA will pick a white player ahead of an obviously better black one. – Lutz, Somerset West

In April we went to Home Affairs in Wynberg to change the names of our adopted son. I called at the end of July to enquire about the progress of the application, only to be told the department still needed my thumb print. Why could they not have phone me? For three months the documents have been with them. More delays. I urgently need the documents to register my son for school. We could not even apply for an un-abridged birth certificate at the same time as we have to wait until the changes have been done! What am I supposed to do? Staff are just not interested and concerned when I asked questions. – Charmaine Lillie, Plumstead

Oscar’s parole on hold

Amanda Amelia Galant: Is this country sick? Why is he getting special treatment? He took someone’s life for goodness sake.

Kathy Rica Sargent: What a disgrace… Franklin Ernstzen: You will be out by next month, Oscar. Hope this will apply to all women abusers and killers. Happy Women’s Month.

Another five-year-old goes missing

Charne Goodman: She looks so adorable; I pray to God that they find the little angel and all the other angels who have gone missing and may God’s hands be over them. Amen.

City spend on CT Cup

Michael Ernest Meder: This whole saga emphasises the point that I have been making. The ANC are very vocal now, but when it comes to wasteful expenditure incurred by the city to clean up and fix damages by their supporters during marches, protests, etc then they say nothing.

Poo flingers handed suspended sentence

Sedick Petersen: These protesters really do deserve to be punished in the most severe way possible. Franklin Ernstzen: We all want a better life but throwing “poo” all over our city… that’s not okay guys. But at the end of the story, it’s all about politics.

Reagan Smith: They should be in jail.
