Household roles to do 180º turn

-

IN MOST homes it’s still the woman who does the lion’s share of the housework.

But this is set to reverse over the next five decades, by which time the cooking, vacuuming and cleaning will more often be tackled by men, a study shows.

Researchers compared how often different generations perform chores and identified a trend line showing men’s and women’s household roles will eventually switch.

Clothes washing is set to shift first, with men taking over within nine years. Cleaning the bathroom will come next, in 16 years, and cooking will follow, seeing men take to the chopping board more often than their partners in 36 years’ time.

Dusting will be the last to fall, in 52 years.

Ironing has already switched, along with loading the dishwasher. As for manly chores such as washing the car, taking the bins out and gardening, there is no sign of a role reversal any time soon.

The study, by Privilege Home Insurance, found women wash clothes and mop the bathroom more than twice as much as their partners each month. And 31percent are more likely to do DIY than their partners. – Daily Mail FRIDAY AUGUST 26 2016
