Zuma is jeopardising rand’s recovery

- JM CHIPKIN Cape Town

WHEN will those in the government learn?

Post-election, the rand firmed to R13.20 to the dollar. Recently it fell to R14.03. Why?

Because President Jacob Zuma has difficulty with the Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan, who refuses to give billions to SAA – the airline that is losing money and has done so under the supervision of Zuma’s “friend”.

To stop the rot, Gordhan refused extortionate amounts to the national airline unless it cleaned up its act and produced figures.

Gordhan is not going to allow the fiscus to be bled dry by our president in his quest for more unscrupulous gains for himself and his cronies.

Until Zuma is forced to step down, nothing will improve.

After the ANC’s debacle at the elections, anyone with a shred of decency would have resigned.

Not Zuma. The resignation of British PM David Cameron, who vowed to step down after the Brexit vote went against him, seems not to have woken our president up to the fact he is a disgrace and should leave as soon as possible so that we can rebuild our country with leaders who are not corrupt.
