‘Ultimate adrenalin adventure’
THE WORLD’S biggest cross-country obstacle race, the Fisherman’s Friend StrongmanRun, is set to take place in Paarl tomorrow. Ferdinand Rabie, a winner of Big
Brother SA in 2000, said he regarded the challenge, to be run between Paarl Rock and Berg River, as one that was worthy of participating in.
“This is known as one of the strongest race of all time, and after participating, I know why. I had the most fun I have had in a long time, wading through and swimming through streams in the biggest obstacles.
“Last year, 12 Fisherman’s Friend StrongmanRun events took place throughout Europe, with over 80000 participants and I was extremely fortunate to participate in the event in Nuremberg earlier this year,” he said.
Describing the event as “successful”, Rabie said: “Considering the ultimate adrenalin adventure, famous for its gigantic obstacles, we are expecting the first SA event to be a sell-out.”
He has been awarded a three-year licence to bring the event to the country.
The long distance obstacle race will have activities such as swimming, climbing and crawling on obstacles.
“The Fisherman’s Friend StrongmanRun has created a new running category and obstacle adventure racing, and is the fastest growing sport for women. It is the ultimate adrenalin kick,” said Julie-Ann van Niekerk.
There will be three distances: the 8km with 12 obstacles, 14 km with 20 obstacles and 21km with 25 obstacles. The entrance to the event will be limited to 5 000 over three race distances.
