High-tech meets great characteri­sation

Re-imaging The Jungle Book seems like such a money-grubbing exercise, until you see Jon Favreau’s homage to the work of Walt Disney and you are just blown away.

From the photo-realism to the excellent voice casting, you reach a point as you watch when you don’t even notice the sheer technical genius that has gone into making the film, you are overwhelme­d and you go with it.

Favreau’s version alludes even more to Rudyard Kipling’s book than the 1967 animated film, though it still holds on to some of the music in not only the score but in actual song.

Neel Sethi makes a charming Mowgli and each of the familiar characters is engaging as they help him figure out who he is and where he fits into the world. SPECIAL FEATURES: The plethora of special features which explain the process of exactly how they made this movie does not detract from – instead it enhances your appreciati­on of the production.

Director Jon Favreau’s audio commentary is detailed and not sparse – many times people say something and then let a scene run, but he’s got puhlenty to say and it’s all quite interestin­g stuff.
