Team of the Week

-

WE’VE tried to include goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune in our team of the week for some time now, but the competition was stiff.

But after keeping a fifth successive clean sheet for Kaizer Chiefs in all competitions, he has earned his place between the sticks. Khune (pictured) has been consistent for both club and country. This was evidenced by his incredible showing in the national team jersey when South Africa played to a 1-1 draw away to Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou in their opening 2018 World Cup qualifier. Khune saved Bafana’s blushes on more than one occasion, despite having a stomach ailment prior to kick-off.

Also making our team is rookie Nyiko Mobbie, who had a blinder as Free State Stars thumped Wits with a 3-1 win in their Telkom Knockout opening-round tie at Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem. The loss of key players at Stars left the door wide open for emerging talent. He was outstanding. – Mazola Molefe
