We must all live in harmony
WHEN we look at our history, we are reminded of our heritage, which we did not create. We did not determine who would be our father or mother, or in which country we would be born.
I am proudly South African in particular, and not an African, as some would call themselves to be politically right.
The colonialist, as it is postulated, invaded Africa and robbed the natives of their land and their natural resources.
They brought with them some ethics, some norms and even good values which are still being maintained by our “anti-colonialists”.
Look at government systems which have been instituted in all African countries, the clothes we wear, and how we even communicate in a colonial language that was forced on the children.
Would we say that everything the colonialists did was bad and that they were not a benefit to Africa?
In every community there is good and bad, whether you were/are a colonialist or noncolonialist.
Unfortunately, we would not be able to obliterate history by removing or even destroying monuments and statues, of good and bad colonialists.
We must move forward, live in harmony with one another and accept the ideologies we are striving to get democratically right and not waste our energy on things we cannot change, and use it to enhance our democracy.
