ABOUT 60 volunteers got down and dirty as part of the Campus Environmental Clean-up campaign at UCT and surrounding universities.

The campaign, called ASEZ which means “saving the earth from beginning to end” was organised by the World Mission Society Church of God yesterday.

All church branches in 175 countries around the world took part in the green campus clean-up campaign.

ASEZ is an international volunteer group that mainly consists of university and college students. Church member Kusile Kewana said various countries such as South Africa, America, Brazil, France, Germany, Singapore and Australia participated in the clean-up campaign.

One of the volunteers, Ndayola Ulenga, 25, who has been part of the campaign for eight years said: “I still find it exciting to be part of the of the campaign because I get a chance to meet different people from different cultures.

“Yesterday was amazing, everything went according to plan.

“University students began their clean-up activities with the goal of turning the community, the nation and even the whole world bright and clean, starting out with university campuses,” she said.

Nathan Allen, 25, said it was nice to see students and the youth participate in the event.

“It was really amazing to see young people participating tin the clean-up, and the fact that we accomplished the mission we had.

“I believe that we have made a difference at the campus and the areas around,” said Allen.
