Be intimate with the music

-

IN HONOUR of its 40th anniversary, the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre in Stellenbosch will be holding a series of performances in which classical newcomers and international performers will host melodic evenings sure to entertain many.

“The theatre is very intimate, you feel really inside the brain of the artist,” said director of the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre Bondina Osterhoff.

“The theatre houses 400 seats so it gives you a close-up with the artist. It also allows you the chance to meet the artist afterwards because the theatre is so intimate.”

The classical programme is set to start with “Young Winners”, featuring talented musicians between the ages of 10 and 18 who will be accompanied by the Stellenbosch City Orchestra on February 8, while also including the Stellenbosch Libertas Choir and Orchestra conducted by Johan de Villiers.

SA classical export Ben Schoeman will be performing a piano recital on February 10, Spanish pianist Antonio Galera and two Bovim Ballet dancers will perform on February 17, The Cape Town Youth Wind Ensemble on February 22, The 40 fingers of Charl du Plessis, Albie van Schalkwyk, Elna Van Der Merwe and Pieter Grobler performing on on two pianos on February 25, followed by a performance by The Stellenbosch City Orchestra playing the popular music of Vivaldi on March 1 and the sacred oratorio by Händel on March 10 and 11.

Ten tickets for each show are up for grabs to the first 10 readers who send their name, number and e-mail address to theatre@oudelibertas.co.za – Staff Reporter
