Rev up your engines for the first Cape Motor Show

- Matthew van Schalkwyk

THE INAUGURAL Cape Town Motor Show (CTMS) is gearing up for GrandWest from Friday until Sunday. It will include outdoor 4x4 areas, drifting and bike zones, and classic and vintage exhibitions.

CTMS spokesperson Garth Rhoda said the event would cater for motor enthusiasts and families looking for a fun-filled weekend.

“All the finest cities in the world have one. So it was only a matter of time before Cape Town would have one,” Rhoda said.

There will be competition vehicles, antique and collectors’ cars, engine modifications and soundoff competitions. There will also be virtual simulators and arcades.

CTMS operations director George Sharp said this is the first motor-vehicle event of such magnitude in Cape Town.

There will be five main exhibiting areas. For those who prefer two wheels instead of four, the Sun Exhibit Hall will house motorcycles. One visitor will stand a chance to win a Harley-Davidson, courtesy of Gumtree.

Gumtree marketing manager Claire Cobbledick said: “Cape Town is a core Gumtree market and we enjoy the most-visited online showroom in SA, so this partnership was a perfect fit for the brand. We look forward to this inaugural event.”

Tickets are R100 a person with a R250 special for a family of four and R60 for pensioners and children between the ages of 12 and 17. Children under 12 will be allowed free access.
