THE CAPE Town Motor Show (CTMS) was a resounding success and brought petrolheads young and old together for a grand spectacle of motor vehicles and motorcycles at the weekend.

The winning family event not only delivered horsepower, vintage cars and displays, but provided activities for children too.

Professional drift driver Mikey Skelton, 41, said CTMS wowed the crowds, especially when the public were allowed to jump into a car as a passenger with a drift driver.

“This is a great opportunity for motorsport drifting to showcase what we can do. We had a lot of fun burning rubber.”

The crowd revved with excitement as they queued for a chance to experience the G-force while spinning around in one of the kitted-up drifting cars.

“The great thing about this is that people get to experience what a drifter would experience behind the wheel.”

Avid car fanatic Peter Luyt, 67, whose dream it is to restore an old car, was accompanied by his family. He remarked that “it’s just a great event for the family, it’s good to carry the legacy forward”.

The organisers were happy with the turnout, said Garth Rhoda, marketing director of CTMS.

“We launched for the first time on Friday, Saturday was phenomenal, we had people queueing from 9am. We had just over 10 000 people on Saturday.” –
