NSRI rescues three ski-boat crew members
THE NSRI had its hands full this weekend, rescuing three men whose boat began taking on water in False Bay and another man was rescued from a near-drowning at Muizenberg yesterday. The man was transported to hospital.
NSRI Gordon’s Bay station commander Alan Meiklejohn said: “CMR (Cape Medical Response) and Life Care response paramedics responded and, following extensive CPR efforts, the man was successfully resuscitated by paramedics and transported to hospital by CMR ambulance in a stable but critical condition.”
In the other incident, the three men were rescued after the institute intercepted a distress call.
“At 12h54 yesterday, NSRI Gordon’s Bay and NSRI Strandfontein duty crews were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following Telkom Maritime Radio Services intercepting a VHF radio distress call from the 6m ski-boat MI Lady reporting to be taking water off-shore off Strand Beach (between Strand and Macassar) with three crew on board preparing to abandon their craft.
“Coordinates provided by the crew of MI Lady were 3km off-shore of Strand Beach and 7km off-shore of Macassar Beach before communications with MI Lady were lost. The three men, from Strand, aged 55, 42 and 20, were successfully rescued on to the sea rescue craft treated for shock and for hypothermia.” – Staff Reporter
