New, exciting way to learn about Madiba

- Theolin Tembo

THE NELSON Mandela Foundation has relaunched its Education Hub on its website, creating a fresh and child-friendly way to help learners find out about one of the world’s greatest statesmen, the late Nelson Mandela.

The hub features quizzes, a timeline of events, an official comic book, a colouring book and a Madiba’s Journey app.

“We had an online launch, where the aim of the hub is to try and not only reminisce about the past, but to build a hub that can help us build towards the future,” said the foundation’s chief executive, Sello Hatang.

Hatang explained that following quizzes over the year, the foundation was able to find a fun and exciting way for young people to learn about Madiba and also to test their knowledge.

“We realised that trying to use conventional ways of teaching is no longer applicable for us, and young people want to be informed in ways they can relate to.

“Out of that we created an app where you can get quotes of Madiba, and you can search for them, by keywords.

“Young people want quick information,” he said.

The website also houses Nelson Mandela: The Authorised Comic Book, which was released while Madiba was still alive.

Hatang said Madiba had joked: “You know you are famous when you have your story turned into a comic.”
