- Alyssia Birjalal

THE search is on to find South Africa’s rising star with the right amount of charm and know-how to take on the red carpet on

The highly-anticipated local production starts this month and will follow eight aspiring-presenter contestants in a six-part series with seasoned Andile Ncube as host and South Africa’s golden girl, actress Terry Pheto as a judge and mentor.

“Expect to see drama, drama, drama and more drama… When you put eight strong personalities under one roof and ask them to duke it out for the prize of a lifetime, there are going to be some interesting situations!” said Ncube.

The contestants will live together in a luxurious mansion, and showcase their talent in weekly challenges. Each week, one of the contestants will be eliminated by a panel of judges until only the most tenacious contender – whose finger is firmly on the pulse of pop culture – is declared the winner, and will become the first-ever

“We are looking for a good television host that understands that it’s not about them and that they are simply the link between the audience, and the subject. They should always have a sense of professionalism, be confident, and have the ability to remain calm and hold their nerve in testing situations,” Ncube said.

One of the things he enjoyed about being on the show was working with the talent. “I started mentoring from early on in my career. I love watching and helping young talent grow into amazing icons of our generation,” Ncube added.

Ncube and Pheto will have the help of famous faces as guest judges, including fashion visionaries David Tlale and Gert-Johan Coetzee, entertainment sensation ProVerb, and Bonang Matheba.

The eight contestants are Danine Naidoo, Mosa Kaiser, Abigail Visagie, Sian Moss, Ayanda Nhlapo, Katleho Sinivasan, Juan-Martin Jordt and Jessica Tims.
